Camden Clean Air Cycle

Sunday 30 May

The Camden Clean Air Cycle will take place on the first day of Bike Week 2021 as part of The World’s Biggest Bike Ride. Bike Week is organised each year by Cycling UK, an independent organisation that encourages people to join in events, rethink their everyday journeys and switch to cycling as the most convenient way to get around.

Camden Clean Air are a not-for-profit organisation working to improve air quality in our borough through a number of initiatives, including promoting sustainable travel, electrification, greening of public spaces, waste and other traffic restriction measures.

The Camden Clean Air Cycle is a bike ride for the whole community to take part in, regardless of a rider’s level, to celebrate cycling, cleaner air and the Borough of Camden.

The ride is 22 km around Camden. This is very much a non-competitive, family-oriented run. We have a number of coffee shops sponsoring the event, who will be pleased to welcome any riders who would like to stop for a coffee, bite or drink en route.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be encouraging a mass meet-up of riders. Instead, all participants will be able to complete the cycle ride at any point on Sunday 30 May between 10 am and 4 pm. This means that everybody will be able to join the Camden Clean Air Cycle safely and at their own pace.

Route

The route start and end point is 106 Arlington Road, Camden, NW1 7HP. [map here]

We have selected a route that will take cyclists all around the Borough of Camden, past all the beautiful landmarks that make our Borough so wonderful. The total route is 22 km. To make the ride even more enjoyable, you can stop off along the way at our partner coffee shops for refreshments. Partner bike shops along the way will also be signposted so you can stop for bike maintenance if needed or just to have a look in. Just look out for the Camden Clean Air Cycle poster in their windows!

Dress code

We would like all riders to wear something BLUE, either on themselves or their bikes. The crazier the better!

Take lots of photos of yourself or your group before you start or along the way, and use the hashtag #thecamdencleanaircycle so we can see them. We will then post them on this page and our social platforms.

Medals

Everyone who takes part will receive an eco-friendly medal! Simply go to one of the cafes or bike shops involved in the race, show them your ticket, and they will give you your medal. See the list of partners at the bottom of this page.

Look out for Team CAPS

Camden Clean Air and PPL PWR have come together to create the Community Air Pollution Sensor (CAPS) Project. PPL PWR is developing lightweight and portable air quality sensors for schools around the Borough. You can read more about the project here.

Team CAPS will be completing the ride with these sensors attached to their bikes to track the air quality around the Borough while testing the accuracy of the data on the move.
