The Camden Clean Air Cycle Ride

After the success of their event in 2022, where 330 families took part, the Camden Clean Air Cycle Ride will be running again this year. This is a friendly, non-competitive bike ride for the whole community to take part in – regardless of fitness level – to celebrate cycling, cleaner air, and the amazing communities of Camden. They want to encourage everyone to explore cycling through central London and discover that it’s a fun, safe and cheap way to travel around the capital.

The date will be Saturday 20 May, from 9.30am, with staggered departures until 11.30am.

The new route starts and finishes at King’s Cross/Granary Square, and takes in Camden Town, Belsize Park, Primrose Hill, Regent’s Park, Fitzrovia, Tottenham Court Road, Lincoln’s Inn Fields and many other iconic parts of London.

If you choose to join them, you’ll discover London from a different perspective, support your community (all the funds raised go back into clean air work with Camden schools and communities) and help improve air quality.

Their focus this year is ensuring that everyone can take part, so they are offering free child bikes, a limited number of free bikes for adults, and free tickets to those on benefits (please email vpensabene@camdencleanair.org if that’s you). They have also partnered with Camden Council, who offer a wide range of courses to learn to ride from scratch or simply get more confident. See below for more information.

There will be many pubs and coffee shops signposted along the way, where riders can stop for refreshments, or even a full meal, as well as fully recyclable medals being handed out to all those who complete the ride. For children, there will be a ‘spot the landmark trail’, which includes spotting zebras and giraffes, and a prize for those who complete it.

For adults, Human Forest has offered a prize of 600 free minutes for the most extravagantly dressed person (remember the ‘Blue for Clean Air’ theme!) or the best decorated bike. Again, remember to stay on the ‘Blue for Clean Air’ theme! All in all, it promises to be another day of great fun. Fingers crossed for good weather for the third year in a row!
