The Camden Roar festival platforms unheard stories of the borough’s past, present and future, and cutting edge new work by theatre-makers connected to NW1.

Camden People’s Theatre (CPT), Artistic Director Brian Logan says: “After the success of the inaugural ‘Camden Roar’ for our 25th anniversary in 2019, we just couldn’t imagine a thirtieth birthday year without a new edition of the festival. It’s a great opportunity for us to work closely with local residents and friends to celebrate our corner of London – the amazing things that have happened here, all the remarkable lives being led just beyond our front door.”

The first Camden Roar festival in 2019 was headlined by CPT’s own show Human Jam, which explored the impact on the local area – and on one particular local graveyard – of the government’s controversial High Speed Rail 2. It also featured High Rise eState of Mind by Beats & Elements, and Tom Marshman’s queer histories project Kings Cross (Remix).

The festival will be headlined by Mirrorball’s brand new show GRILLS ( (an oft-used substitute for “girls” in the lesbian community of 1980s London). The production was commissioned by CPT to explore the ground-breaking work of the pioneering Camden Lesbian Centre and Black Lesbian Group, the UK’s only dedicated lesbian centre (which closed in 1995) – and will close with another edition of our once-seen, never-forgotten Tolmers Square Variety Spectacular.

Bring your piece to the festival

CPT is now inviting proposals to be part of this festival. We’re looking for performances, shows and stories about Camden, that may be particularly appreciated by Camden audience, and/or that are made by artists with meaningful Camden connections.

The festival welcomes work that is finished and performance-ready by June 2024 alongside works-in-progress and ‘scratch’ performances.

CPT particularly welcomes and encourages applications from artists who identify as: 

• D/deaf and/or disabled 
• Neurodiverse 
• Working-class, benefit class, criminal class and/or underclass 
• Global majority* 
• Migrant 
• LGBTQ+ 

*This includes people of Black Caribbean, Black African, South Asian, East Asian, South East Asian, Middle Eastern, Arab, Latinx, Jewish, Romany and Irish Traveller heritage.

We want: Performance the like of which we’ve never seen before. New shows, new ways of making theatre, new experiences for audiences.

‘The Camden Roar’ is seeking new theatre that:

• Tells Euston and Camden stories
• Addresses questions of particular interest to Camden audiences

We particularly welcome proposals from artists who can demonstrate a meaningful connection to the Camden area.

While this is primarily a theatre festival, we will consider proposals for stand-up comedy, music, cabaret etc. where a strong Camden focus is demonstrated. Please familiarise yourself with CPT’s artistic interests before applying.

What we provide:

• The CPT arrangement with Camden Roar artists is flexible according to the needs of each show, but our default offer is:
• A 60/40 box-office split in artists’ favour (Usual ticket price £12, concs £10. Works-in-progress all seats £8. Seating capacity 63)
• Scratch performances will receive a £75 honorarium
• PR and marketing support, inclusion in brochures, flyers, website, social media activity
• PR, marketing and other professional skills training sessions for participating artists
• Technician to support get-in, get-out and to operate shows
• Networking opportunities with other festival artists
• Discounted tickets to other events in the festival & discount at the CPT bar

How to apply:

• Please complete the application form via Eventotron to apply (please click this link to view the form). Video and audio submissions can be accepted in place of a written application, just follow the instructions on Eventotron to submit.
• The form is split into three sections. The first collects basic details about you, the second asks for more information about you and your proposed show, and the third section is our Artist Monitoring Form. The third section should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. We cannot accept scripts, or any other documents outside of the application form.
• Applications should be submitted by 12pm Monday 26th February 2024.
