Primrose Hill Families: Off to Nursery School

If your child is turning one, it may not be long before you start wondering which nursery to start using. Whether back at full-time work or not, parents in Primrose Hill have a range of options to look into, all of very high quality and in great demand. Parents need to get their offspring booked into these early as there is usually a waiting list for places!

We spent a very happy two years attending St Mark’s Square Nursery School, where Sheema Parsons OBE has been leading a unique and very special nursery school for 31 years. We started with mornings only, and grew into doing full days when my son was ready. You may have seen the children, in their practical smocks, enjoying the beautiful garden at St Marks’ Church. We remain great friends with families that we met. We also know many who have had fantastic times with Ready-Steady-Go, Octagon, Auden Place and Primrose Hill.

The range of fun activities in the area is particularly rich in the pre-school years – whether starting baby-gym indoors at Talacre or Swiss Cottage, footballing in the park with Little Kickers, or even swimming lessons with Swimming Nature, you will not be short of ideas. Check out the What’s On pages for a listing of things to do for the “Growing”.

We started dancing at the Community Centre on Thursdays with Catherine Minns (www.chalkfarmschoolofdance.co.uk) and this is still a firm favourite after three years. What make it special is that children come from different nurseries, but several have now ended up at the same primary school which delights them. Many children begin their circus careers at the Community Centre too as Genevieve offers trapeze lessons for children of 3 upwards, while their parents and carers enjoy a good chat waiting on the mezzanine landing at the centre. www.facebook.com/circusglory

Looking back, we didn’t need to rush into anything at all. The simplest pleasures of walking in the park, and digging in the sand-pit, are very special memories of a very happy time.

Everyone told me the time would fly by, and I didn’t believe them . . . . but it did.
